In the little things

Hello, welcome to my blog and thanks for stopping by!๐Ÿ˜Š

Something struck me last sunday and some thoughts crossed my mind that I just felt to share.
Listen quickly on my podcast here.

I realised as I sat down that day in church that God made us to be able to enjoy the simplest things of life, from when He made Adam and Eve – enjoying the cool of the garden while tending it, relating with themselves and having fellowship with Him…that’s what God intends for us too!

God wants us to be able to enjoy these little things like being able to freely communicate in love with people around us, make beautiful memories, interact with nature; appreciate the beauty of creation and all that good stuff even as we go about our ‘work’

We worry most about the big things we want to achieve; the world is filled with too many people trying hard to be ‘extraordinary’ by every possible means, sometimes at the expense of their peace and stability and even that of others.

Human nature has a way of turning โ€˜wonderfulโ€™ into โ€˜ordinaryโ€™ over time, just by getting used to the environment, and we start to stop noticing the things that we used to be in awe about…and somehow the beautiful becomes the boring.

Exerpt from devotion ‘Worship Changes Everything’ by Darlene Zscheche

When the lecturer is teaching and you’re trying to follow but you’re slowing fading out๐Ÿ˜†

While it’s necessary that we go after the big things, the problem is that in pursuit of our ambitions, we often neglect the simple, most important essence of life in itself, deviating from the original pattern God had intended us to live.
The world is chasing more vain things than it is truly seeking to live; to love and be happy.

My hope is that as you read this, you begin to identify the simple blessings and priviledges you might have neglected, and the ordinary things you might have ignored; remember that long lost friend you should call, say ‘hello’ with a smile to that wretched looking stranger you’ll pass by on the road, be more kind to your family members and those around you, focus more on the good in others, let go of faults, love yourself in every way you can and spread that love to everyone around.

“Be gentle with one another, sensitive”

Eph. 4.32a (MSG)

“Nothing is more appealing than speaking beautiful, life-giving words. For they release sweetness to our souls and inner healing to our spirits”.

Prov. 16:24 (TPT)

The world will be a much better place if we all can be ‘ordinary’ people trying to love and treat each other in extraordinary ways because while so many things seem to matter now, in the end only a few things will.

“Try to outdo yourselves in respect and honor of one another”.

Romans 12:10bย (TPT)

We might not always be able to do big things, but we can always do litttle things with big hearts.

And soon we’d realize that those little things are the big things afterall.

Here’s the refrain part of the lyrics to the song I mentioned in my podcast; Ordinary People by ๐™ฒ๐š˜๐š‹๐š‘๐šŠ๐š–๐šœ ๐™ฐ๐šœ๐šž๐šš๐šž๐š˜. I love every bit of it.

“Let us have a world of ordinary people
Living life the way God wants us to
And if we have a world of ordinary people
Extraordinary things
Will happen through me and you
Me and you”

In another part he sang “…every tall tree grew up from some mustard seed”.

You can look at the rest of the lyrics here๐Ÿ˜‡
You can also download the song here.

“Summing it all up, friends, Iโ€™d say youโ€™ll do best by filling your minds and meditating on things true, noble, reputable, authentic, compelling, gracious – the best, not the worst; the beautiful, not the ugly; things to praise, not things to curse”.

Phil. 4.8 (MSG)

I hope you take that action, lets do this!

Love,
Jay.

This is so true, Jedi. Most times we’re concerned about the great things we want to achieve that we tend to neglect the blessings around us and we fail to be blessings to others too. I’ll be intentional about this. Thank you for the reminder ๐Ÿ˜Š

  2. Very refreshing. Thanks so much Jedidiah. God created the world out of simplicity. He made from little and it became great! Until we acknowledge the little, greatness is not in view!

Love in it’s simplicity is the greatest after all. This is so true, cos Love makes us Live and be happy. We sometimes pay over attention to things that we term ‘big things’ and forget the little things that matter. Love!.

  5. Lovely! Proverbs 20: 12 says eyes to see and ears to hear are gifts from God. I also say everything is a gift from Him. We’ve become so used to these gifts that we ignore them and chase so called “bigger/ extraordinary “things. I choose to love, to be patient to those around me and my self too, God help me! May God help me to live each moment joyfully through His Spirit in me.

Wow this is really insightful, it’s a call to consciousness. Little things come together to make up big things and people fail to understand this, every thing in life must start from the little and then to the top. When small it’s never easy, so much struggle for survival but God expects you to be grateful be joyful, full of love because he gives the increase. And if you aren’t Faithful/joyful over little things more can’t be given to you.(Fidelis in Minimis)
Take your time, enjoy the process, be patience with God and Trust him for increase.
      Blessings!

  10. If anything this period of lock down and stay at home makes this message very timely. Many of us have had to temporarily let go of some of the things we have been pursuing. We are left with all the things that really matter.

This big things, though necessary but weighty .it stresses you, drains you, n age you .
But the ordinary, simply regularly normal things(like a good pulse rate) are what makes us real n true( a whole person), happy, energized, hale n hearty, younger, and a fortiori is what God wants us doing, just breath…just live, love and be happy.

Sha,… thank God that He has put His love in our hearts, and I pray He keeps helping us to spread it in all the ways He’ll have us do so. His grace is everly sufficient ๐Ÿค—โ˜บ
