My 2020 Lessons

Hellooooo
Welcome back to Jay’s blog, Stars on Earth.
It’s been a long long year and along the line, I noted some lessons I picked at different points in the year (both from my own experiences and things that happened around me) in my notebook, to myself. I’ve decided to share these lessons, just as I wrote them, with you😊
Hopefully, you’re able to pick one or two to add to yours as we plan on being better people and making the rest of our lives the best of our lives😄

In no particular order, let’s get right in!

~ Don’t speak ill of someone to another person just because you’re not in good terms at the moment.
You might never find opportunuties to correct or change what you’ve said if you later think otherwise.
As much as possible, do not speak ill of people.

Ps. I did a podcast on this titled Ill talking. You can listen to it by clicking HERE.

~ People will always be people. We will always be humans. Flawed. Imperfect.
The truth is we might not be prepared for the shockers, but even the most unexpected people can let us down.
We must learn that people dissapoint even themselves and only GOD does not fail; only Him can truly be ALL we need in one.
Hence, we must learn to truly love – forgive readily, let go of offenses and be wise to know when letting go means keeping some distance and when it means drawing closer.

Also,

~ We cannot give what we do not have. People will only give out from what they have; people will only be who they are. When we get to know people, we must understand their peculiarities and limitations and accept them for who they are, no matter the picture we have already created in our minds, or the person we “wish” they were.
Being realistic with our expectations from different people will prevent us from being dissapointed. This also allows others and us space to be ourselves and to grow at our own pace.

~ Friendships do not have to be intimate – enjoy good friendships, appreciate the people who take out time to share their lives with you, no matter how much. Nobody has to be there all the time, so at any point there’s an apportunity to create a good memory, do it without feeling entitled to that person’s time, space or affection.

Also,

~ “Not every friendship is a forever one and that’s okay. Life is just like that. Seasons and people change, and with that our relationships. Get clarity and pursue peace but be willing to embrace the change, with appreciation for what was and love for the person who still is”
– Jackie Hill Perry

~ Fear is only a mirage. Whatever we are afraid of is not real. Fear makes us think something is too mighty or big when indeed, we are much more.
If something is going to happen, it will happen anyway, no amount of terror or fear will take it away, but most times, the things we fear do no happen, or they do and we realise it was not even half as big as the fear of it afterall, because we conquer it.
Fear is only a trick of the devil to cage our minds, limit our abilities, sicken our bodies and then dampen our joy.

~ We just need an opportunity to be away from all the things that have occupied our lives, alone, with ourselves, to realise who we truly are – the things that really occupy our hearts, the content we are made of.
That pause, once in a while is needed for us to live a life that’s worth a meaning for us personally, not just going with the flow of how everyone is living or how things are “meant” to be.

~ People will always matter. When everything else we occupy ourselves with fails, the relationships we have built will be our stay and serve as support to us. Hence, we should appreciate the people who genuinely love us and be kind to people in our lives even when they hurt us; people will always remember how they were treated even when they were wrong.

~ We’re not really in control of the outcomes. We never have been. We just don’t realise it until it looks like we’re no longer on the wheel. God’s got everything figured out though, that is why we must trust Him.

~ A lot of change can happen in less than a month. Like, you can be a whole entirely new person (mindset, thought patterns…which is the basics upon which you live and make decisions) in such a short time!
You can grow into a much better person if you want by continually pursuing and acting on truth – knowledge that brings freedom.

~ Even through the darkest of moments, joy is a choice: a choice to look up to Jesus to draw hope and strength.

Joy is indeed strength. In joy, we find the courage to keep moving on no matter the set backs.
I’ve learnt that I can be joyful, no matter what and I deserve to be (I mean, that’s what the Lord paid for when He hung up on that calvary!). So, joy, joy, joy!…

~ I’ve known this all along, but the realisation hits differently this year – God is good!
Even when everything is not right, God is good. It’s who He is; always has our best interest at heart, always proves faithful in the end, good good father.
All the time, God is good!☺️

That’s it.
I’m sure there are so many other things I learnt this year, but these are the ones I noted along the line, most probably, the ones that struck me the most.

Which of these lessons spoke to you the most?
What is one striking thing you have learnt from your own experiences this year?
I’d really love to know in the comments below🤗

Have a beautiful celebration🎄💕

And a wonderful, more fulfilling new year!

  3. God is good😊
Even when we don’t see it, even when we don’t feel it. He never stops working, and it all works out for our good eventually.

Learning to celebrate God’s work in my life and the life of those around, while still trusting in his promises yet to be fulfilled.

Thanks for sharing your lessons with us Jay 🥰

  4. Wonderful, peace with God and men. Also I understood that we don’t have to have everything figured out , we just need a God that has everything figured out. Thanks a lot.

  8. Speaking ill of people indeed has ruined several relationships and sank them deep in the sea of hurts.

Talking behind people isn’t healthy at all. Verifying before lambasting is crucial as well. You might not just know what is actually going on.

We have to be conscious not to do this without knowing…

  9. Wowwww. I could really relate with the ‘people will always be people’, in as much as I expect the best from people, I give room for them to be humans.

This year, I learnt that a lot of things are truly temporary and can soon fade away. As such, my focus and energy has been redirected.

Thanks for sharing your lessons girl
    Have a pleasant celebration💖

  11. Yeah..the lesson about people. It’s been one of my hard lessons. Hardest of all has been realising too that I am also human. I make mistakes even with the purest of intentions.
Thanks Jay, there’s so much wisdom in here!

  12. I liked the lesson of cherishing the friends you have and the relationships you’ve built over time. With time, you’ll realise that those are the things that really matter. Appreciate whatever time you have with people and the moments of their lives they decide to share with you, no matter how little. 😊

Thank you so much for sharing.
